Biography:

Eko Nugroho is an internationally-renowned contemporary artist based in Yogyakarta, one of the major art centers in Indonesia. He entered the Yogyakarta art scene at the beginning of Reformasi (1998-2001), or the early period of democratisation in Indonesia. He is known for his reinterpretations of traditional Indonesian media and techniques, fluidly combined with a stylised aesthetic evocative of comic books. Employing humour and vivid imagery, his work explores social and political issues in Indonesia and beyond. He has exhibited in prestigious institutions and manifestations around the world, including the National Museum of Singapore, the Musée d'Art Moderne de Paris, and the Oku-Noto Triennale in Japan.
