Biography:
Elías Adasme is a multimedia visual artist, graphic designer, art teacher and essayist of contemporary art, who has lived in exile in Puerto Rico since 1983. He was born in Illapel, Chile in 1955. Between 1974 and 1979, he studied Fine Arts at the University of Chile. Adasme is known for his conceptual works, which take the form of installations, performances, digital graphics, visual poetry, and mail art. His most famous work, 'A Chile (To Chile)', was exhibited at the Paris Biennale in 1982, but never in his own country, as the artist fled in exile to Puerto Rico in 1981. The work is a metaphorical relationship between his body and the nation’s map, through interventions in public and private urban spaces. Adasme's work has been exhibited in numerous key galleries and museums such as MAC Quinta Normal.
