Biography:
Emile Bocian was born in 1912 in New York to Polish Jewish immigrants. He was the only non-Asian resident of Confucius Plaza in Chinatown. Bocian was a self-proclaimed 'expert on Chinatown' and became a photojournalist in the 1970s and '80s for The China Post, a Chinese-language daily in New York. He first came to Chinatown in the 1970s while acting as public relations specialist for the Confucius Plaza housing project. Bocian died in 1990 at the age of 78.
