Biography:
Emma Richardson Cherry was an American painter known for her landscapes, still lifes and portraits. She was born on February 28, 1859 in Aurora, Illinois to James Perkins and Frances Ann (Mostow) Richardson. Emma studied art at the Académie Julian and Académie Delécluse in Paris, as well as with Luc-Olivier Merson and the Art Students League of New York. She was a co-founder of the Kansas City Art Association and School of Design and later moved to Houston where she helped establish the Houston Museum of Fine Arts. Emma Richardson Cherry passed away on October 29, 1954.
