Biography:
Frederik Hendrik Hendriks was born in Arnhem in 1808. He resided in his hometown of Arnhem his whole life, but took regular trips to nearby Amsterdam, sometimes for periods of several months. In the last years of his life, he was head of the Art Academy in Arnhem. Hendriks was a painter known for his landscapes, cityscapes, and still lifes. He was a prominent member of the Dutch Romantic movement, and his work often featured dramatic lighting and vivid colors. Hendriks's paintings were well-received during his lifetime, and he exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy in Amsterdam. Today, his work is held in numerous museum collections in the Netherlands and abroad, including the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam and the National Gallery in London.
