Lester was born in Amsterdam on February 6, 1972, to Mark Dunning Lester and Frederika Rolande Wilhelmina Erwteman. He grew up in a cooperative commune named 'Impuls' in the small village of Pieterburen, in the province of Groningen. This unconventional upbringing likely influenced his future artistic endeavors. In the 1990s, Lester became involved in early street and hip-hop culture, eventually producing rap and electronic music under various pseudonyms. He attended a course on audiovisual arts at the Sint Joost art academy in 1994 and later studied experimental cinema at the Sint-Lukas Hogeschool in Brussels.
