Biography:

Georg Pawer, also known as Apian or Apianus, was a German mathematician, astronomer, and cartographer. He was born in Leisnig, Germany, in 1495 and died in 1552. Apian was a professor of mathematics at the University of Ingolstadt and is best known for his work in cartography, particularly his contribution to the development of the Mercator projection. He also made significant contributions to the study of astronomy and mathematics, and was a member of the Accademia dei Lincei. Apian's work had a significant impact on the development of modern cartography and his maps and atlases continue to be studied and used today.
