Biography:

George Frederick Oberteuffer was an American painter, best known for his impressionist landscapes and city scenes. He was born in Philadelphia in 1878 and studied at Princeton University before attending the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. He later studied under Thomas Anshutz and William Merritt Chase. Oberteuffer's best and most sought-after works were created during his nineteen-year stay in France, where he was inspired by the Luxembourg Gardens and the architecture of northern France. He developed a fresh and vigorous style, using vibrant color and bold brushstrokes to capture the essence of his subjects. Oberteuffer's work has been exhibited at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the National Academy of Design in New York. He died in Gloucester, Massachusetts in 1940.
