Biography:
George Matthew Bruestle was an American painter born in New York City in 1871. He was the son of German immigrants. Bruestle studied art first in New York and then in Paris. His initial sojourn to Connecticut brought him to Essex in 1886, and he became a prominent figure in the Old Lyme Art Colony. Bruestle is known for his Impressionist pastoral landscape paintings and illustration. He died in 1939.
