Biography:

George Nelson Cass was an American painter born in Canaan, New Hampshire in c. 1825. He was educated at Concord, Massachusetts and followed his profession in Boston. Cass was a major exponent of the Barbizon landscape aesthetic and a still life painter of note. He was active in the 1860s and late 1870s. In his day, he was a well-known artist and his works have been offered at auction multiple times. He died in 1882.
