Biography:

Monbro et fils âiné was a French furniture maker, active in Paris during the 19th century. The firm was founded by Georges-Marie-Paul-Vital-Bonifacio Monbro, who died in 1841, and was later taken over by his eldest son, Georges-Alphonse-Bonifacio Monbro. The firm became one of the leading ébénistes of the time, producing high-quality furniture in the styles of Napoleon III, Louis XV, and Chinoiserie. Monbro et fils âiné exhibited their work at the Paris 1855 Exhibition and supplied furniture for the Museum’s founders’ homes in France. The firm was known for their use of marquetry, gilt-bronze, and ormolu mounts, as well as their attention to detail and craftsmanship. Monbro et fils âiné was in business until 1884, the year of Georges-Alphonse-Bonifacio Monbro's death.
