Biography:

Gerrit Jacobus Gerrits (Nieuwer-Amstel (Amstelveen), 24 December 1893 - Amsterdam, 5 July 1965) was a Dutch graphic artist, designer, painter and sculptor. He was known for his absolute abstract art. Gerrits studied at the School voor Kunstnijverheid in Amsterdam. He was a professor of chemistry and polymer technology at the University of Groningen from 1965 to 1993. Gerrits was elected a member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1986. Since 1998 he is also an honorary member of the Royal Netherlands Chemical Society.
