Biography:

Giovanni Antonio Piatti was an Italian cellist, teacher and composer. He was born in Milan, Italy in 1822 and died in 1901. Piatti was known for his virtuosity on the cello and his contributions to the development of cello technique. He was also a prolific composer, writing numerous works for cello and piano, as well as chamber music and orchestral works. Piatti was a prominent figure in the musical life of London, where he lived for many years and performed regularly at the Crystal Palace and other venues. He was also a highly respected teacher, with many notable students including Alfredo Piatti and William Henry Squire. Piatti's playing and compositions have had a lasting impact on the cello repertoire and continue to be studied and performed today.
