In 1862, Boldini moved to Florence for six years to study and pursue painting, where he met the Macchiaioli, a group of Italian realist painters who were precursors to Impressionism.
Boldini's artistic style was characterized by his flowing, spontaneous response to nature, as seen in his landscapes. However, it was his portraits that brought him widespread acclaim. He became known as the "Master of Swish", a title coined by Time magazine in 1933.
Giovanni Boldini passed away on July 11, 1931, in Paris, leaving behind a legacy as one of the most fashionable portrait painters of his time. His work continues to inspire artists and art enthusiasts alike.
