Biography:

Giovanni Hajnal, also known as János Hajnal, was a Hungarian artist and illustrator who was born in Budapest in 1913. He is considered one of the major contemporary creators of glass walls and mosaics. Hajnal studied at the Art Academy in Budapest and later attended art academies in Frankfurt, Stockholm, and Rome. He started his artistic career as a book illustrator and later became known for his glass walls and mosaics in Italy. Hajnal was granted Italian citizenship in 1958 due to his artistic merits. He received several awards for his work, including the Cross for Civil Merits from the Hungarian President in 1992, the Magister Rerum Artium Honoris Causa from the Council of Art Academy of Budapest in 1992, and the Ordine al merito della Repubblica Italiana from the Italian president in 2002. Hajnal died in Rome in 2010.
