Biography:

Gooitzen de Jong (Enschede, 25 juni 1932 - aldaar, 14 augustus 2004) was a Dutch artist. He was known for his sculptures and paintings. De Jong followed an education at the Academy for Art and Industry (AKI) in Enschede and at the Rijksacademie in Amsterdam. He was the official city sculptor of Enschede from 1961 to 1976 and advised the municipality on the maintenance of monuments and sculptures. He was awarded the Prix de Rome in 1960. His best-known works include 'Harmonicaspeler' (1956), 'Suzanna' (1959), 'De vier heemskinderen' (1960), 'Man met vrouw' (1961), 'Tamboer' (1968), and 'Man met kruiwagen' (1975).
