Biography:

Hans Gillisz. Bollongier or Boulenger was a Dutch Golden Age still life flower painter. He was born in Haarlem and became a member of the Haarlem Guild of St. Luke in 1623. He specialized in bouquets of blooms and was an important influence on later flower painters. He painted during a period of great productivity for Haarlem painters, and his work was very popular, but it was not regarded as such by contemporary Haarlem painters. His paintings are considered part of the proof that Tulip Mania took place, although there is reason to believe that this is also just part of early Haarlem tourist propaganda. He died in Haarlem in 1645.
