Biography:
Henry Somm (also known as Heinrich Sommer) was a French painter and illustrator born in Mainz, Germany. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and became friends with poets and writers such as Charles Baudelaire, Paul Verlaine, and Stéphane Mallarmé. Somm was part of the Symbolist movement and his work is characterized by its dreamlike quality and use of allegory. He exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants and the Salon de la Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts. In addition to painting, Somm also worked as an illustrator for magazines such as La Revue Blanche and Le Chat Noir. He died in Paris in 1907.
