Biography:

Heinrich von der Becke was a German sports photographer born in Dresden in 1913. He became interested in photography at the age of 12 when he received his first camera as a gift. In 1928, he began an apprenticeship with the Sportbildagentur Max Schirner in Berlin, where he learned the art of sports photography. His first published photograph was taken at the Berliner Meisterschaften im Waldlauf in 1928. In 1935, he joined the Pressebildzentrale Berlin, where he worked until 1939. During World War II, he served as a Panzerjäger in the Infanterieregiment 68. After the war, he worked for the Berliner Zeitung and other publications. He is best known for his photographs of the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin, including images of Jesse Owens. Over the course of his career, he took approximately 65,000 black-and-white photographs, 1.2 million negatives, and 2,000 color photographs. He died in Berlin in 1997.
