Biography:
Hermann Carl Eduard Biewend was an important figure in the early years of photography in Germany. He was trained as a chemist and was Assay Master (warden) and Master of the Mint for the Bank of Hamburg from 1843 until 1876. He was also an amateur daguerreotypist and published many scholarly articles on chemistry. He was born in Germany, but the exact date and place of his birth are not known. He died after 1876.
