Biography:

Himmat Shah is an Indian artist born in Lothal, Gujarat in 1933. He grew up surrounded by the remnants of the Harappan Civilization and moved to Bhavnagar where he studied at Gharshala. Later on, he pursued his studies in painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts of M.S. University, Baroda. Shah is known for his long-term engagement with terracotta sculptures and has been a prominent figure in contemporary Indian art since the 1960s. He was part of the Group 1890 exhibition held from October 20 to 29, 1963 at Lalit Kala Akademi, Rabindra Bhavan in New Delhi, India.
