Biography:
Ivan Komersteiner was a Croatian sculptor and woodcutter of German origin. He was born in the mid-17th century and died in Zagreb in 1694/95. He was the most prominent early Baroque sculptor in Croatia. His most famous works include the altarpieces of St. Mary and St. Ladislaus in the Zagreb Cathedral, as well as the predella of the altar of St. Ladislaus. Komersteiner's works are characterized by their high quality and attention to detail. He was also involved in the creation of the iconography of the renewed Kingdom of Croatia. In 2017, the Zagreb Cathedral and Komersteiner exhibition was opened at the Museum of Arts and Crafts in Zagreb.
