Biography:
Junius Allen was considered one of the most promising artists of the twentieth century for his naturalistic and enticing paintings of coastal landscapes and harbors in Maine, New Jersey, New York, and New England. He was born in Summit, New Jersey in 1898 and died in New York City in 1962. He was a member of the Salmagundi Club and the National Academy of Design. He exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the Corcoran Gallery of Art, and the Art Institute of Chicago. His work is in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the National Gallery of Art, and the Museum of Modern Art.
