Biography:
Linton Park, also known as James Lang Park, was born on November 16, 1826 in Marion Center, Pennsylvania, USA. He was an American painter in the Folk Art tradition and a vegetarian union soldier. Park was the ninth and last child of John and Mary (Lang) Park. He was a lifelong vegetarian and adhered to the diet through the American Civil War as a soldier in Company F of the 2nd District of Columbia Infantry Regiment. He requested for vegetarian food as the US Army were given beef and pork rations. Park's most well-known painting, 'Flax Scutching Bee', was found in 1939 and brought him to the attention of the art world. He died on September 17, 1906 in Erie, Pennsylvania, USA.
