Joan Beverly Schulze is an American artist, lecturer, and poet born on October 13, 1936, in Chicago, Illinois. She is best known for her work in contemporary quilts, fiber arts, and collage. Schulze has been recognized as a 'pioneer of the art quilt movement' and her influence has been compared to that of Robert Rauschenberg. Her work is featured in galleries and private collections worldwide, including the Renwick Gallery/Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC, the Museum of Arts and Design in New York, and the Oakland Museum of California.
