Biography:
Joan Borrell i Nicolau was a Catalan sculptor who worked in the Noucentist and Modernist styles. He studied at La Llotja in Barcelona and later in Paris, where he met Pablo Picasso and other notable artists. Borrell i Nicolau is known for his portraits and sculptures, including a statue of Jacint Verdaguer that crowns a monument dedicated to the poet in Barcelona. His work also includes busts of prominent figures such as Enric Prat de la Riba, Santiago Rusiñol, and Federico Chopin.
