Biography:

Joan Matabosch is a Spanish music critic and opera director. He was born in Barcelona in 1961. After studying piano, vocal performance, harmony and information sciences at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, he began his career as an assistant to Albin Hänseroth at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona. From 1997 to 2013, Matabosch served as Artistic Director of the Gran Teatre del Liceu before joining the Teatro Real in Madrid as its Artistic Director in 2014. He has also worked as a journalist and opera critic for various publications, and has served on the jury of prestigious international music competitions.
