Biography:
Lotte Jacobi was a German-American photographer known for her high-contrast black-and-white portrait photography. She was born in Thorn, Germany, and took her first photograph with a pinhole camera at the age of twelve. She studied literature and art history at the Staatliche Höhere Fachschule für Phototechnik in Munich. In 1927, she joined the family photography business in Berlin and began her photography career. She is notable for her portraits of famous figures, including Albert Einstein and Marlene Dietrich. In 1935, she fled to the United States to escape the Nazis and settled in New York City. She continued to work as a photographer until her death in 1990.
