Biography:
John William Lindt was a German-born Australian landscape and ethnographic photographer, early photojournalist, and portraitist. He was born in Frankfurt on Main, Germany in 1845 and ran away from home in a Danish vessel when he was seventeen years old. He received his education in Denmark and later moved to Australia, where he became a prominent photographer. He is known for his portraits of Aboriginal people and his landscapes of the Australian wilderness. He died in 1926.
