Biography:

José Celestino Figueroa was a Colombian painter active in the first half of the 19th century. He was a disciple of his father Pedro José de Figueroa and worked in his workshop alongside his brothers. Figueroa is considered one of the most important portraitists of the first half of the 19th century. His early lessons in painting were received along with his brothers in the workshop of his father, where they learned the art of painting.
