Joseph John Thomson, also known as J. R. Thomason, was a British physicist born in Cheetham Hill, England in 1856. He is best known for his discovery of the electron in 1897, which revolutionized the understanding of atomic structure. In 1906, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics for this groundbreaking work. Thomson also proposed the 'plum pudding model' of the atom and made significant contributions to the fields of electromagnetism and mass spectrometry. He passed away in Cambridge, England in 1940.
