Biography:
Koret, Inc. was founded by Joseph Koret, a Russian Empire-born American businessman and philanthropist. Koret was born in 1900 in Odessa, Russian Empire (now Ukraine) and immigrated to the United States with his family as a baby. He grew up poor in the Lower East Side of Manhattan and moved to San Francisco at age 17. In 1937, Koret and his father founded Koret of California, a textile company that would become known for its invention of Koratron, a new process for permanent press fabrics. Koret served as the CEO of Koret of California until his death in 1982.
