Biography:
Julius Lange was a German landscape painter born in Darmstadt in 1817. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich and the Düsseldorf Art Academy, becoming a landscape painter as student of Johann Wilhelm Schirmer. He established himself in Munich in 1840, where he received numerous commissions and stayed abroad in Milan and Venice. He served as Art Instructor to the Archduchess Charlotte of Belgium until 1858. In 1850, he married Emilie Henriette Bettinger and they had one daughter, Elisabeth. He returned to Munich in 1858 and became a court painter in 1868, painting many works for both King Maximilian II and his son King Ludwig II as well as interior design studies for the royal castles at Herrenchiemsee and Linderhof. He died in Munich in 1878.
