Biography:

Karl Anderson was a master of painting the figure posed out-of-doors and belonged to the second generation of American artists who adopted the brilliant color and fluid, spontaneous brushwork associated with impressionism. He was born in Morning Sun, Ohio in 1874 and died in Westport, Connecticut in 1956. He is known for his genre, landscape, figure, portrait and interior painting, as well as his teaching. Anderson studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and academies and classes in Paris and Holland from 1900 to 1904. He then supported himself as a house painter and photo editor before becoming a successful artist.
