Biography:
Wilhelm Gentz, also known as Karl Wilhelm Gentz, was a German painter born in Neuruppin, Germany in 1822. He was the second child of the businessman Johann Christian Gentz. Wilhelm Gentz initially enrolled at the Berlin Friedrich Wilhelm School and later studied at the Berlin Academy of Arts. He also studied in Antwerp, Belgium. Wilhelm Gentz was known for his Orientalist paintings, which were inspired by his travels to Egypt, Malta, the Sinai, Asia Minor, the Greek Islands, Constantinople, and other parts of the Middle East and Mediterranean. He died in Berlin, Germany in 1890.
