Biography:
Hakuyo Kurata was a Japanese painter born in Tokyo in 1881. He was a member of the Japan Fine Arts Exhibition and studied Western-style painting under Hakuyō Kurata. He was a member of the artists' circles Hakubakai, Taiheiyō Bijutsu, and Shigenki. In 1912, he joined Kyosu Nichigo and founded a sketch club with Riko Kawabata. He traveled extensively in Japan, Russia, Europe, and produced many landscape paintings. He was also a judge at the Bunten Exhibition and established the Japan Mountain Forest Fine Arts Association. He died in 1968.
