Biography:
The Kyoto Ceramic Art Association is a group of ceramic artists based in Kyoto, Japan. The association was founded in 1948 by Kazuo Yagi and other members of the Sōdeisha collective, with the aim of transcending traditional aesthetic values in ceramics and blurring the line between pottery and sculpture. The association is known for its production of nonfunctional ceramic vessels, as well as experimental methods such as burnishing pottery objects black. The Kyoto Ceramic Art Association continues to be an active and influential group in the Japanese pottery world today.
