LaVonne Patterson, also known as LaVonna Patterson, was born in New Bern, North Carolina, United States. She grew up in a small coastal town and spent four years overseas in Germany. She later lived in the Midwest in North Dakota for eighteen years before making the northwest in Idaho her home. She is a book author and retired psychologist.
