Biography:
Leonid Tishkov is a Russian contemporary artist. He was born in a school teacher's family in a small town of Russia, on the Urals in 1953. He started his career making cartoon-like works in the 1980s that focused on ironic, black humor and political aspects. Since the beginning of the 1990s, his artistic creation consists of installations, sculpture, video, photography, works on paper and books. He has participated in numerous important group exhibitions including Berlin-Moscow Moscow-Berlin 1950 … and has been recognized as the best Russian caricaturist of the 20th century (according to the Russian magazine 'Faces'). He joined Cape Farewell on the 2010 Arctic expedition. He is also known for his poetic and metaphysic oeuvre realized in a diverse and often unconventional range of media. He is the younger brother of a Communist and a high-ranking official Valery Tishkov.
