Biography:
Lila B. Hetzel, also known as Lila Barr Hetzel, was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States in 1873 and died in 1967. She was a well-known figure in the Pittsburgh art community throughout the twentieth century. She was the daughter of George Hetzel, the famous landscapist and founder of the Scalp Level Movement. She studied art at the Pittsburgh School of Design and became a painter, creating her painting 'Self-Portrait' in 1949-1950 when she was 76 years old. She was also a supporter of the arts and was involved in the Pittsburgh art community. Her papers are held at the Heinz History Center Museum Collections.
