Louis Mader was born in Germany in 1842 and came to the United States in 1867. He is known for Naive historical, mural. Folk artist Louis Mader was born in 1842 in Germany and died in 1899 or after. He spent most of his life in almshouses and was an itinerant portrait painter before being committed to the Berks County Almshouse for vagrancy and 'insanity' in 1872. He painted Berks County Almshouse in 1895.
