Biography:
Louis Jules Duboscq was a French instrument maker, inventor, and pioneering photographer. He was known for the high quality of his optical instruments. Born on March 5, 1817, at Villaines-sous-Bois (Seine-et-Oise), he apprenticed with Jean-Baptiste-François Soleil in 1834 and married one of Soleil's daughters, Rosalie Jeanne Josephine, in 1839. Duboscq built various instruments such as a stereoscope, colorimeter, polarimeter, heliostat, and saccharimeter.
