Biography:
Louise Stern is an American writer and artist, born in 1978. She grew up in an exclusively deaf community and is fourth-generation deaf on her father's side, and third-generation deaf on her mother's side. She attended California School for the Deaf, Fremont. Her work explores ideas of language, communication, and isolation. She has published a collection of short stories, Chattering, and a novel, Ismael and His Sisters. Stern has also worked as an artist, exhibiting her work in galleries in Europe and the UK. She is the founder and publisher of Maurice, a contemporary art magazine for children.
