Biography:
Luis Garcia Hevia was a Colombian painter and photographer. He studied painting with Pedro José Figueroa and was one of the first Colombians to use the daguerreotype technique, which he learned from John A. Bennet's workshop. He established an academy of drawing in 1843 and founded the Academia de Dibujo y Pintura in 1846. Garcia Hevia also worked as a photographer and was known for his portraits, landscapes, and still-life paintings. He was a prominent figure in Colombian art during the 19th century.
