Maaria Wirkkala (b. 1954) is a Finnish artist who lives and works in Helsinki. She has had an international career spanning three decades with her site-specific installations often being ephemeral or temporary. Her work explores the complexity of given situations to uncover their poetic potential or charge them with new meanings. Wirkkala's artworks have been exhibited in numerous key galleries and museums such as Kiasma, Museum of Contemporary Art. She has also received recognition through awards like the Ars Fennica Award, which is one of the biggest Finnish art awards.
