Biography:
The Gobelins manufacture is a French tapestry factory founded in 1601 by Henri IV. It is located in the 13th arrondissement of Paris, at 42 avenue des Gobelins. The factory was originally created to produce high-quality tapestries for the French court and nobility. Over the centuries, the Gobelins manufacture has produced some of the most famous and beautiful tapestries in the world, including the series of the New Testament. The factory uses the technique of haute lisse, which allows for the creation of intricate and detailed designs. Today, the Gobelins manufacture is still in operation and is part of the French Ministry of Culture. It continues to produce tapestries and is also home to the Galerie des Gobelins, which hosts temporary exhibitions.
