Biography:
Martin Edgar Ferrill was born in 1836 or 1837 to Matthew and Eliza Ferrill, natives of Ireland who had come to the United States before 1835 and settled in Lansingburgh, New York. He was an American painter known for his naive landscapes, genre, interiors, and folk art. Ferrill's works have been exhibited in various museums and galleries, including the Detroit Institute of Arts, Michigan, the National Gallery of Art, Washington, and the Musée d'Orsay, France. He died in 1897 in Lansingburgh, New York.
