Master Of Santa Anastasia

Master Of Santa Anastasia

Biography:

The Master of Santa Anastasia is an anonymous artist who worked in Verona, Italy, during the late Gothic period. He is named after the iconographical representation of St. Anastasia in the church of Santa Anastasia in Verona, which he painted in a highly curious manner, giving the saint the physical characteristics of an old age he obviously never had. The Master of Santa Anastasia is known for his work in the Pellegrini Chapel of Santa Anastasia, where he painted the fresco 'Saint George and the Princess' above the entrance arch. His style is characterized by rounded and soft lines that make his sculptures rather plastic and three dimensional. The Master of Santa Anastasia is also known for his work in the Zadar Cathedral in Croatia, where he contributed to the construction of the Romanesque-style building in the 12th and 13th centuries. Veronese bell ringing, a style of ringing church bells that developed around Verona, Italy, from the eighteenth century, is also associated with the Master of Santa Anastasia.
