Biography:
Max Esser was a German sculptor and medallist born in Barth, Germany in 1885. He was known for his animal sculptures and chess sets. Esser died in Berlin in 1945. His work has been exhibited in the Große Deutsche Kunstausstellung and can be found in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. He was also an adventurous young merchant banker and the first managing director of the largest German plantation company in Cameroon. He is the author of the artwork 'Sea Life Chess Set and Board'.
