Biography:

Michael Staubwasser is a German geologist and isotope geochemist. He is a professor at the University of Cologne and a principal investigator in the Collaborative Research Center 1211 Earth - Evolution at the Dry Limit. His research interests include processes causing stable isotope variations in the environment, the impact of past climate changes on human societies, and the impact of climate change on the transition of Neanderthals to modern humans in Europe. He has published numerous papers on these topics and has received recognition for his work, including being a member of the National Academy of Sciences. He is also known for his work on the Speleothems from the Carpathians, which revealed that a sequence of stadials with severely cold and arid conditions caused successive regional extinctions in Europe between 44,000 and 40,000 years ago.
